Overview
OBJECTIVE
The specific objectives will be to train personnel with relevant wildlife skills in:
- Management and conservation (wildlife)
- Fisheries management
- Wetlands management and conservation
- Tourism management
Environmental management as it relates to the above fields will underpin the training in these programmes.
Goal of the program
The overall goal is to fill an existing gap in training of practically oriented skilled personnel to work in areas of wildlife, fisheries, tourism and environmental management and conservation
Structure
Course Structure and Duration
The degree programme shall consist of four academic years of 2 semesters of 15 weeks each.
At the end of the degree programme candidates shall be awarded the Bachelor of Science degree in any one of the following options taken in their fourth year of study:
- Management and conservation
- Fisheries management
- Wetlands management and conservation
- Tourism this opition was done away with. Is it being re-introduced?
Exemptions
A candidate may be exempted from some courses and credits transferred from an approved institution, subject to the following conditions:
- Request for exemptions shall be made in writing to the Academic Registrar, University of Nairobi at the time of admission and must be accompanied by officially endorsed supporting documents, including the syllabi for the relevant course(s).
- The University of Nairobi reserves the right to administer an appropriate test, through respective departments in order to determine whether exemption should be granted.
- Application for exemption shall be considered only after the payment of an exemption fee, as may be prescribed.
The courses on which such exemptions are sought shall not exceed one third of the total units.
Admission Requirements
Candidates eligible for admission to the above degree programmes will be required to be holders of the following qualifications:
3.1 A minimum of a C+ in KCSE with a C (plain) in biology or biological science and/any one of the following: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or Physical Sciences, Geography.
3.2 Two principals and a subsidiary pass in KACE. One of these passes must be in Biology and the other in any science subject.
3.3 A minimum of a C- (minus) in KCSE with a diploma in a biological science from a recognized institution.
3.4 Holders of a degree in a biological science from a recognized institution.
3.5 Any other qualification equivalent to any of the above, subject to Senate’s approval.

Exam Regulations
The general examination regulations of the University of Nairobi and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine shall apply.
6.2 The course shall be examined by continuous assessment tests and a final examination. The continuous assessment tests shall constitute 20% of the final marks and the final examination shall constitute 30% of the mark.
6.3 The final examination shall comprise a 2-hour written examination and a 3-hour practical examination. The practical examination shall constitute 50% of the marks.
6.4 The pass mark shall be 50%.
6.5 A candidate who fails in the final examination may re-sit the failed course(s) when next offered upto 2 times subject to payment of the prescribed examination fees.
6.6 A candidate who fails in the second re-sit shall be discontinued.
6.7 The examination shall be moderated by an External Examiner with qualifications acceptable to the Board.
6.8 The cumulative performance in the programme shall be summarized in the average score over100 and a grade give as follows
