Overview
- The course shall consist of a 2 year full time study by coursework, examination and thesis. The first year of study shall be devoted to the coursework while the second year shall be devoted to research work and thesis writing.
- In the first year of study, candidates shall be required to take eight (8) compulsory courses and one (1) optional course. In addition all registered students will be required to take course 513 which shall be examined at departmental level by continuous assessment only.
- Candidates will be required to give-attend seminars as prescribed throughout the coursework period for all courses for which the candidate would be registered.
- The common regulations for the Masters Degrees in all Faculties of the university of Nairobi shall apply.
- Those eligible for admission shall be:
- Holders of a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine of the University of Nairobi .
- Holders of a Bachelors degree from other Universities approved by Senate as being equivalent to the Degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Nairobi .

Exam Regulations
Exam Regulations
The Examination shall consist of two parts:
Part 1 (First Year) Examination.
- Candidates enrolled for the degree shall be required to take part 1 examination and pass a total of (9) courses at the end of the first year before being allowed to proceed to the second year of study.
- The examination papers will each comprise of a 1x3 hour written examination.
- The pass mark in each course shall be 50%.
- The final written examination will constitute 70% of the marks in each course, while the continuous coursework assessment shall constitute 30%.
- Coursework assessment shall consist of term papers, seminar papers, practical exercises and other tests as may be given in each course.
- A candidate who fails in one or two papers with a mark between 40-49% may, on the recommendation of the Board Examiners and approval by Senate be allowed to site a supplementary examination in the failed papers within 3 months.
- A candidate who fails in three or more papers with a mark of less than 50% or one paper with a mark of less than 40% or a supplementary examination will be discontinued.
Part II Examination
- This part II examination shall comprise of the examination of the Masters thesis and an oral defense of the same in the prescribed manner.
- The common regulations for the Masters Degrees in all Faculties of the university of Nairobi shall apply.
